How to use these photos
Look past the house in the picture and focus on the details: the top of the fence, the post caps, the spacing between boards, the gate hardware. Those are the pieces that make one fence feel different from another. Then think about your own yard. A tall, solid privacy fence might look great in a photo, but if your lot is small, a semi-privacy style can feel less boxed in.
Details worth noticing
Tops and caps
Flat tops, lattice, spear points and decorative finials change the whole look without changing the material.
Board direction
Horizontal boards read modern. Vertical boards feel classic. Both can give you full privacy.
Gates
A gate gets used every day. Width, hardware and swing direction matter as much as looks.
Also think about color. A black aluminum or steel fence tends to disappear against trees and lawn, while white vinyl stands out and frames the house. Natural cedar weathers to a soft gray unless you stain or seal it. Pick the look you’ll still like in ten years.
